# U.S. Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) Pipeline Security Directive
Guidance and resources to help pipeline owners / operators implement a cybersecurity strategy, backed by the Dragos Platform technology and Services.
The recently issued Security Directive Pipeline-2021-02C (SD02C) reinforces the importance of ICS / OT cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, like the nation’s pipelines. Incorporating input from the pipeline industry and other stakeholders, the new directives represent a significant shift from recent prescriptive, compliance-based standards. Owners / operators of critical oil and gas pipeline systems and facilities now have more flexibility in meeting the cybersecurity outcomes included in SD02C.
The directive also aligns with industrial cybersecurity standards, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), API 1164, and the ISA / IEC 62443 series. By bringing the security directive in line with other standards, owners and operators are in a better position to address the evolving and intensified threat of cyberattacks and to improve resiliency throughout our nation’s infrastructure.
Under SD02C, pipeline owners / operators are required to:
- Create and implement a Cybersecurity Implementation Plan
- Develop and maintain a Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan, and
- Establish a Cybersecurity Assessment Program with an annual plan to assess its effectiveness.
